Adaptive Sports Center

Crested Butte Nordic Center partners with the Adaptive Sports Center (ASC) to offer lessons using Nordic sit-skis or snowshoes. Lessons focus on providing the skills necessary to independently increase strength and balance through Nordic skiing.

Challenge Aspen

The Challenge Aspen program frequently partners with several area resorts including Aspen Snowmass to provide the support needed for everyone to enjoy a winter adventure. Challenge Aspen offers lessons and custom adventures for all ability levels.

National Sports Center for the Disabled

The National Sports Center for the Disabled (NSCD) offers adaptive outdoor recreation activities for individuals of all ages, abilities and interests.

Devil’s Thumb Ranch partners with NSCD to offer Adaptive Cross-Country Ski and Snowshoe Lessons that can for both stand and sit skiers.

Snow Mountain Ranch Nordic Center serves as home base for the NSCD skiing events and programs. NSCD brings skiers at no cost to Snow Mountain Ranch’s accessible location to expose them to adaptive Nordic skiing, including sit skis and biathlon. Other activities, such as ice skating and snow tubing are made available to this group as well.

Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center

The Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center (BOEC) offers both Nordic and snowshoe lessons to people with disabilities or special needs at Breckenridge Nordic Center and Frisco Nordic Center. Lessons can accomodate stand and sit skiers.

Snow Mountain Ranch and the Nordic Center will once again host Ski for Light from January 29 though February 5, 2023. This annual, week-long event teaches visually- and mobility-impaired adults the sport of classic cross country skiing and allows those who have already mastered the basics the chance to improve their skills and endurance.


Vail Nordic Center also has two sit skis available to use free of charge.


All of the mentioned organizations strive to provide programming for all, regardless of financial situation. Programs are offered at reduced costs and scholarships are available based on financial need. Visit the organizations’ websites for more information.
