One Day Base Camp is a fun, learn-to-ski cross country programs geared towards children ages 5-9. The emphasis will be on fostering a love for the sport and enjoying winter in the Roaring Fork Valley. At base camp, children will unknowingly develop basic motor skills invaluable to their future athletic involvement. Skill such as coordination, agility, and balance will be taught through a variety of games and activities. As children progress through the Base Camp programs they will learn teamwork, sportsmanship, fair play, and other essential habits common among successful adolescents. Base camp participants will be coached by an experienced staff that is dedicated to the safety and success of its participants. Scholarships are available for these programs.
Presented by Town of Frisco and Summit Nordic Ski Club (SNSC)
The Little Vikings is a new after-school Nordic ski program presented by Town of Frisco and Summit Nordic Ski Club (SNSC). The program is open to youth in grades K-5. Join us for one of two six week sessions that meet after school at the Frisco Nordic Center. SNSC will provide top-notch coaching and a fun-filled environment for learning or improving Nordic skiing. Transportation is provided for Frisco Elementary students, and all gear is provided through the Frisco Nordic Center. The focus of this program is having fun on skis. It is non-competitive and open to all abilities with a special focus on learning to ski and developing good classic technique.
Youth Nordic Skiing-Beginner
Youth Nordic Skiing-Beginner offers an introduction to cross country skiing for kids new to snow sports, gets kids with some downhill or snowboarding experience comfortable on Nordic skis, and develops technical skills for kids with some previous Nordic experience.
Youth Nordic Skiing-Intermediate
Youth Nordic Skiing-Intermediate develops cross country skiing skills for kids with previous Nordic experience. To enroll in the intermediate program, participants should have completed at least 2 seasons of Bill Koch, Beginning Youth Nordic Skiing, or have equivalent Nordic experience. Kids should be able to put on all gear by themselves, ski with or without poles, and safely stop using a wedge. Participants will be introduced to climbing and descending small hills, the half wedge, classic skiing in the tracks, and skate skiing.
For both programs, kids should have multiple layers each day. Jackets, hats, and gloves are required, ski pants are highly recommended (limited extra clothing will be available). Family members are invited to participate in relays on the final day of class. Equipment (skis/boots/poles) provided. Gear is available for participants to borrow outside of class times as well.
Fridays: 1:00pm - 2:30pm
The Kids Nordic Ski Program offers ski instruction for beginners and more accomplished skiers ages 5-9, skiing games, winter nature activities, and ends with a Nordic Ski Festival.
